Reflection

In my first blog, I analyzed the importance of government. I had just begun the government course and thought it was a fitting topic to begin with. Initially, I thought the blogs would be tedious and pointless, and did not think I would gain much from doing them. As I did more blogs, I realized that the time and research I put into doing the blogs each week were well worth it. I gained more knowledge on current events and was forced to read and comprehend the material in the textbook instead of cramming everything the night before a test. In doing the blogs, I wanted to make myself aware of the real and pressing issues in today’s world, and I believed I achieved my goal.
Over the semester, the topics I chose to write about in my blogs began to relate more to the subject of government. I had started out with casual debate topics such as whether or not the beauty standard set for today’s women are healthy or whether or not smoking in public places should be permitted, and ended blogging about whether third parties are good for the American system and whether or not members of congress should be allowed to become lobbyists. Taking the government course had allowed me to better analyze and understand the political topics I was presented with.
My best blog entry would be my post comparing the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution. This post effectively outlined the each of the works. With a combination of information on American history and American government, the blog successfully compares, contrasts, and analyzes the two documents.
Given the chance to do the blogs over, I would have chosen topics more relevant to American government and economics when I began my entries. I would have also tried to research more in depth on the topics I wrote about. When I first began this blog, I over thought and over analyzed everything I wrote. I surfed the web for long periods of time just to look for an interesting topic to write about. As a tip for novice bloggers, I would say do not procrastinate doing the blogs, they can pile up quickly, and can take a while. Also, I would recommend looking in your textbook for topics to write about, and for a miscellaneous topic, to watch the news or just go on the yahoo website and browse for ideas. Don’t blog about things that are irrelevant, but instead write about something you can learn from.
